Ivan Alekseevich Alekseev

Иван Алексеевич Алексеев
1735–1779

He was educated at the Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy, then at Moscow University among its first students. He was twice (1758, 1759) rewarded with medals for his academic success. During his teaching years Alexeev published a number of translations from Latin and Greek, intended for young readers. His translations, as a rule, were preceded by quite lengthy discussions of the benefits of reading them. In 1762, as a person "knowledgeable and worthy in the sciences" he received the title of Master and was sent to St. Petersburg to teach history, geography and philosophy at the Land Noble Cadet Corps. Later he was promoted to the rank of captain.
