Mikhail Ivanovich Antonovskii

Михаил Иванович Антоновский
1759–1816

From small landed gentry. Studied at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and Moscow University. He was a friend of Nikolai Novikov. Chairman of the society "Sobranie universitetskikh pitomtsev" ("Assembly of University Students") at Moscow University (1781). He served at the Admiralty Collegium. He ran the "Obshchestvo druzei slovesnykh nauk" ("Society of Friends of Literary studies") in St. Petersburg. Author of the collective historical work "Noveishee povestvovatel'noe zemleopisanie" ("The Newest Narrative Geography") (1795), publisher of the magazine "Beseduiushchii grazhdanin" ("The Talking Citizen") (1789), one of whose authors was Aleksandr Radishchev.
