Aleksei Petrovich Golitsyn

1754 – после 1811

Prince. From 1758 he served in the Izmailovsky Regiment. In 1778 he was dismissed with the rank of colonel and was appointed advisor to the Chamber of Criminal Court of the Vladimir Viceroyalty; the same year he received the rank of State Councillor. Privy Councillor (1793). In his literary career he acted as translator and compiler. In 1775 he published a translation of "The English Orphan" ("Aglinskoi sirota") by Charles Henri de Longueil. The play was staged in the Moscow theater. Apparently he was the translator of the one-act French comedy "Fanny" ("Fanniia") by David, staged in 1789. In 1802-1803 he translated a sensitive story by Antoine-Joseph-Nicolas de Rosny about the "horrors" of the Jacobin Terror, under the title “Adelaida, ili Neschastia De la Galetierra vo vremia Detsemvirskogo pravleniia” (“Adelaide, or the Misfortunes of De la Galetierre during the Decemvirian Reign”) (1797). He is also the author of a number of other works.
